Introducing The Music Industry Social Worker

A Systems-Level Perspective on Independent Music

"I don’t position myself as having all the answers. I position myself as someone committed to collaboration, ethical leadership, and building systems that actually support the people behind the music."

Sabella "Bella" Reyes, LCSW, Music Industry Social Worker

Sabella “Bella” Reyes is a licensed clinical social worker, Executive Director of Track Society, and a pioneering practitioner in the emerging specialty of Music Industry Social Work. Her work sits at the intersection of  behavioral health, workforce development, and the independent music economy.

Bella’s approach is grounded in a core principle:

Artist wellness and career sustainability are directly connected. One cannot exist long-term without the other.

She works alongside independent artists, music professionals, and industry leaders to strengthen both human capacity and professional infrastructure within the evolving music landscape.

Defining Music Industry Social Work

Music Industry Social Work is a behavioral health-informed practice focused on supporting individuals and systems within the music ecosystem.

Bella’s work includes:

  • Behavioral health support and psychological safety
  • Career development and goal alignment
  • Resource navigation (mental health, healthcare, financial stability)
  • Community and ecosystem building
  • Mentorship and leadership development
  • Infrastructure and standards development within independent music spaces

Rather than positioning herself as the solution, Bella operates as a collaborative builder, helping individuals and communities access the tools, support, and partnerships required to succeed.

Philosophy: Culture, Creativity, and Responsibility

Bella frames the independent music industry through a unique lens: “This is a high-performance space operating like a sport, but without enough coaching, structure, or shared standards.”

Through her work, she has identified critical gaps:

  • Limited access to artist development and mentorship
  • Inconsistent community support and collaboration
  • Barriers to mental health and healthcare resources
  • A growing population of creators balancing music with real-life pressures, often earning less than 50% of income from their craft
  • A rapidly evolving ecosystem requiring emotional, professional, and structural adaptability

Her work directly addresses these gaps by building intentional systems of support, not just one-time interventions.

Bella’s leadership is grounded in both care and accountability: the independent music community has real influence over culture. Influence without intention can dilute it just as quickly as it can grow it.

Track Society: The Organizational Extension of This Work

As Founder and Executive Director of Track Society, Bella operationalizes this vision through programming, partnerships, and community initiatives designed to:

  • Support independent artist development
  • Expand access to mental health and wellness resources
  • Build career pathways within music and creative industries
  • Strengthen community infrastructure and collaboration

Track Society serves as a platform for implementation, translating theory into practice.
